The Best of Hong Kong’s Shipping Industries: Shipping and Port Logistics

As advised by Premier Wen Jiabao, the secret to avoid Hong Kong being marginalized is to take advantage of “Hong Kong’s irreplaceable position as an international trade centre, maritime centre, and financial centre.”

As logistics/supply-chain are evolving as the artery of global economy from typically a business function, maritime logistics (mainly of port and shipping logistics) have become the most critical element of international trade and global economy. The trend towards maritime logistics is even further intensified by the fact that the Chinese 11th Five-Year National Economic Planning has identified Logistics as its major strategic direction of national economy, focusing on the development of Three Major Logistics and Portal Regions (i.e., Pearl River Delta, Yangzi River Delta, and Bo-Hai Gulf) as the top priority commitments.

As the maritime university of Hong Kong, PolyU is obligated to step up and play an essential role in striving for the historical ambition of China.
