Welcome Message from Head

Welcome to our webpage!

2008 has been a remarkable and exciting year for our department. As from 1 September the former Department of Logistics has become the Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies (LMS), to better reflect not only the Department’s expertise in logistics but also its unique and well-established role as a key provider of maritime education in Asia. Currently, we are the only University in Hong Kong that has a maritime department offering a full range of degrees in maritime studies, from Higher Diploma to postgraduate programmes.

Looking ahead, it will be full of challenges, with our finance and trade taking the hardest hit by the financial tsunami. But, we could keep in mind that Hong Kong is an international centre of finance, trade and shipping, with full support from the Chinese Mainland; and logistics of Hong Kong indeed means international logistics, means maritime logistics. We should think “international” and be prepared for unpredictable changes.

On our part, we will continue to work towards excellence in maritime studies, shipping, transport, and supply chain logistics by providing high quality of teaching, research and consultancy. With prominent academic profile, commitment to real world connection and good network with the industries, we are in a strategic position to attract supports and opportunities and nurture forward-looking and practical leaders who can face up to challenges.

Professor John J. Liu
Head & Chair Professor of Maritime Studies
Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies
